Prof. Rexford Assasie Oppong

oppongRexford Assasie Oppong is an Associate Professor of Architecture in the Department of Architecture at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi-Ghana. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Architecture from the premier Liverpool School of Architecture - University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom (2007-2011); Masters in Urban Planning and Management from the La Sapienza-University of Rome (2003-2004) as well as BSc (Design) (1991-1994) and Postgraduate Diploma (architecture) (1996-1998) from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (KNUST), Kumasi.

Rexford is a researcher, academic and architect with interest in Human Settlements Planning. He is a registered member of the Ghana Institute of Architects (Standing Register No: ARC S. 0561) and has acted as a consultant to a number of organisations and institutions in urban/rural Ghana in the areas of architecture and building construction.

Rexford Oppong is a Presbyterian and a full member of the Christ Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, KNUST. He enjoys being a Presbyterian and tries to respect Presbyterian traditions. He has planned, designed, supervised and completed a number of projects including over 50 private residential buildings, about 25 bank buildings and interiors as well as the Presbytery architectural projects of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

He has won many scholarships and awards/prizes. He co-won (with Professor Kwasi Kwafo Adarkwa) the Appraisal Institute Prize for the best paper delivery award at the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors/International Real Estate Society sponsored Conference, held at Livingstone, Zambia in 2007. He is Honorary Research Fellow of Liverpool School of Architecture of the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Rexford Assasie Oppong hails from Oyoko near Koforidua in the Eastern Region of Ghana. He attended Pope John Secondary School and Junior Seminary, Effiduase-Koforidua (1983-1988) and Sunyani Secondary School, Sunyani (1988-1990) for his Ordinary and Advanced Levels education respectively. He actively participated in students’ politics at the secondary and tertiary levels of his education.
